I'm Fiona,
nice to meet you.
After graduating with my Masters degree in Communications in May of 2014, I embarked on a path that took me into the digital world.
As a hobby photographer and student of Astrology, UX Research and Design was a natural fit for me as it combined my love of art and design with my natural curiosity and passion for understanding the human experience.
How I got started in UX Research
My web production and website operations background led me to discover the User Experience Research and Design world. It was the perfect combination of problem solving and creative design for someone who loved the work challenges that web production offers. It seemed like such a natural progression to move from production to UX. For the past seven years I have led UX Research teams in projects across the healthcare and insurance industries.
What I've been working on
Over the past three years at FM Global I have been an instrumental part of building our UX Research practice from the ground up. I was the second UX researcher hired for the company and I have created standards for UX Measurement and tracking for the products we are working on to quantitatively show how UX Research drives improvements. I have also worked with out team to help build our practice research standards, templates and tools to ensure that we have the same level of research rigor across our projects.
Our team has grown quite a bit in the last three years and over the past year I have taken on mentoring and managing four of our junior researchers who are working in my product research stream. It has been very rewarding to watch these young researchers learn and grow in their roles.
Outside of my research practice work I also lead the research for our Risk and Engineering product streams. This includes large scale end to end research projects for six product teams. Currently I am leading a large scale generative research project to understand how our internal engineers work to help create improvements to their workflow, process and tools.
What I'm curious about
There are so many things to be curious about the in the realm of UX Research. The main focus of my work to date has been qualitative research, but I have spent a good portion of the last year growing my quantitative measurement skills and I am looking for a place I can further put that work into practice.
